In good weather months, crews perform work that will maintain the safety and integrity of the electric system – for the long term. That's good, prudent business practice. In addition, we, like other electric utilities, prepare members for outages and hire and train employees to manage outages when they occur.
Last year, CCEC replaced rotten poles from Myrtle Point in the north to Brookings/Harbor in the south. And, the cooperative continued its effort to trim or remove trees that were close to power lines and could potentially cause an outage if they happened to fall into the power lines – all as part of our ongoing programs that occur year after year because this kind of work is just never done.
But, members should still prepare for an outage because there is never 100 percent guaranty that one won't occur. When one does occur, be sure to let CCEC know so crews may be dispatched as quickly as possible to respond to and correct the problem. Members experiencing an outage during regular business hours should contact the local CCEC office to report the location of the outage. For outages occurring after hours, members should call the after-hours dispatch center at 1-866-352-9044. The Cooperative Response Center [CRC] telephone operators have access to CCEC's member database and are able to pinpoint outages with a member's name [if the account is in the resident's name], telephone number, account number or meter number. CRC alerts the CCEC employee who is fulfilling his 24/7 on-call assignment for the week and provides information regarding the number of calls and location of the outages. That on-call employee contacts the operations department and the line crew is notified. All of this happens within a 5 minute period.
